Hi! I’m Nancy, and this blog is basically a documented and time-stamped roadmap of my journey towards better health.
I’m exploring the possibility of eating well and still losing weight, by focusing on exercise versus diets, restrictions and deprivation. Which, hopefully, explains all the sweat around here.
For the back-story, read How a Groupon Changed My Life. My trip to BLR, Fitness Ridge in November 2012 was the catalyst for change in my life. That trip to “fat camp” kicked me in the teeth, shook me to my core and woke me up to just how unhappy I was in my life.
It also inspired me to set a BHAG: I set out to exercise all 365 days of 2013 as I wrote about in my 2013 New Year’s Resolution . And I did. I actually exercised every single day, for 365 days in a row. Here is what I learned along the way. And here is a summary of what I lost and gained in the process.
This journey has been all about pushing boundaries, overcoming self-induced obstacles and proving [to myself] just what I’m made of.
This blog is my commitment to making better life choices and embracing a new, healthier lifestyle.
No more temporary “fixes” (diets, gadgets, cleanses, pills, etc.). There is no magic pill, no silver bullet. It has taken me a long, long time to figure this out. Results come from hard work. Period.
I decided to embrace a lifestyle that would allow me to be my best me. I also made the decision to write about my journey; to expose myself and all my insecurities and fears to the world [well, at least that small percentage of the world who finds and reads this blog].
I know this won’t be easy. And I’m confident there will be many [horrifying to me; entertaining to you] bumps along the road. But I’m committed to see this journey through to the end.
I am embracing my inner warrior one bead of sweat at a time.
Keep moving!
xoxo nancy
Hi…love your blog…found you from Linda at Expat Eye. Look forward to reading more.
Hi Diana, welcome! Thank you for your kind words! I adore Linda! I’ll be over to check your blog out too!
PS – – I am guessing you are from Texas?
Actually, no. 🙂 Tex is a nickname based on part of my surname.
Ha, ha, ha….ok – – I thought since I was seeing “Tex” and then saw “y’all” that you might be a fellow Texan 🙂 Thanks for following my blog….and nice to meet you!
I’ve adopted y’all from y’all 🙂 and I’ve adopted “rubbish” from the Brits. I absolutely love it when they refer to something they’ve done as rubbish. “I had no energy yesterday, so my workout was rubbish!” <- LOVE that! 🙂
Ha, ha, ha….I LOVE rubbish too!!! Along the same note, isn’t it fun to read Linda’s posts??? Not only her word choice, but I like to imagine her words with an Irish accent..
Totally!
Thanks for the visit on my blog today. We seem to share a love for hiking – cool!
You have a new follower 🙂
Loved your wordless Wednesday post today!
I can relate to your statement about “pushing boundaries”. To put this in perspective, from your picture i’m guessing that I have at least forty years on you and I’m a gym rat, I’ve worked out most of my life and especially in the past eight years. I also have pulmonary problems that are going to put me under the grass eventually but I swore to myself that it would not be without a scrap. So when I’m working out I push it and I can feel those breathing problems shrinking. Next few hours they come back of course but then “The Boundary ” and I go at it again.
My best to you as you continue your fight.
If you have 40 years on me, friend, that would make you nearly 90. And if you’re nearly 90 and still a gym rat…STANDING OVATION for you! 🙂
The photo on this page was taken the day my girlfriend and I left ‘fat camp’ – Nov 2012 – and I was 46 years old. My 365-days-of-sweat happened in 2013 (46 to 47 years old) and I’m still going strong – that is, trying to balance work, life and a healthier lifestyle into each day. It’s a process, and it’s hard work, but no one said it would be easy, right? The best part for me? The happiness I’ve found as a result of feeling healthier, more alive!
Best wishes to you and your continuing journey to scrap it out and fight a home under that grass! Cheers to you!
Nope, not 90, only 75. Not 90 only 75? could that be an oxymoron? Anyway I agree that it is a “process” and whenever you get knocked off track (and the circumstances of life can do that) just be sure to get back on.
Thanks for following my blog. I don’t post much but I might….
75 and still a gym rat? That is AWESOME! Hats off to you!
Hey Nancy, Just found your site via Hiking To Healthy and included it in my (phew) massively personal post today about my Hiking and Weightloss journey. I hope you like it !: http://lotsafreshair.com/2014/09/22/hiking-fitness-weightloss/
Got to say, I love your stuff – Keep it up!
Hey there! Great to meet you! I adore Kathy (Hiking to Healthy)!!
I can’t wait to read your post and learn about your journey!
Just found your site via Lady of the Cakes – Inspiring! (and intimidating too 😉 )
Hi there! Any friend of Simone’s is a friend of mine. Especially if you like cake. 🙂
Yup! She’s the best! Has even had a post or two dedicated just for her. 😉
Oh my! I may have to go hunting for them.
Hello Nancy! You have the excellent blog. It is a lot of interesting information! I enjoy it! I see, you the confident person! 😎
Hey there Nancy! Fellow storyteller here. Just stopped by your blog randomly and gave it a follow. Visit me if you’d like to return the favor at http://www.thatssojacob.wordpress.com. Thanks!
Hi Nancy! You were highly recommended to me by two of our mutual friends – Mr. Trent Lewin and Mr. El Guapo…so here I am stopping by to introduce myself. I’ve been doing this blogging madness now for a couple of months and I think I’m in over my head. So any levity your blog can provide will sure help! Looking forward to your posts 🙂
Welcome Nurse Kelly! Any friend of Trent and Guap is a friend of mine. As a side note, isn’t is strange that Trent lives 2 hours from me and Guap is in a whole other country, yet it’s Guap I’ve met in person??
Thanks for stopping by! I’m looking forward to checking your blog out!
Good to know Guap is even real from I’ve encountered around here! I don’t know where either one of them lives, but yes that is strange!
I’m in Toronto. Trent is just west of here. Guap is in NYC. 🙂
Guap must get around! OK well thanks for that – I’m in Cleveland – not quite NYC or Toronto, but we’re getting there!
It was me visiting his stomping grounds, actually. My last job had me in NYC every six weeks. I miss it!
This is fantastic Nancy – so inspirational. I haven’t seen any new stuff from you in a while – what’s up? You still traveling so much?
3 of 4 weeks in February, unfortunately. As in 3 full weeks away. March is off to a bang, too. I’m headed to Montreal on Wednesday (thankfully just a day trip), then it’s off to Vegas Saturday night through the following Sunday night. Arriving into Toronto on the redeye Monday morning, then flying to Atlanta Monday night. Good times. :-S
Wow – that’s a rough schedule. What do you do that requires so much travel?
Field Sales Director for a large tech company.
That’s great, Nancy. All that traveling can wreak havoc on your health, though. But I’m sure you’re staying on top of that!
I normally love to travel, but this has been a bit much, even for me. No doubt made worse by the fact that I was attempting to buy a house at the same time.
Sounds like a house you wouldn’t be able to enjoy much right now! Although it’s a good time to buy
It’s a horrible, horrible time to buy in Toronto, Kelly. Hence the 5 month never-ending search. The Toronto housing market it beyond stupid. $800k for a tear-down. I’m not even kidding. If you ever watch those made-in-Canada shows on HGTV – you’ll know what I mean. They are not making those numbers up. 🙂
Wow I didn’t know that! Well hang in there and safe travels 🙂
Now that we’ve bought, a huge weight has been lifted. I won’t be homeless in 30 days. 🙂
I just read your post! Congrats! But that’s a lot of work ahead of you…
Bahahaha…I’m a sucker for punishment. 🙂
Sure sounds like it! Post before and after pics if you can. 🙂
I absolutely will. This is a project I’m really looking forward to. The renos on my current house were a necessary evil – done to maximize my selling price. These renos will be for ME! Me, me, me!!! 🙂
Great blog idea – I agree health is a lifestyle not a trend!
If you want it to stick beyond “fitting into that dress for the upcoming wedding”, or “need to get fit fast; bikini season is here”, yep, it needs to be a day in, day out commitment.
Hey Nancy!! Happy Canada Day and just to extend the celebrations a wee bit more.. have nominated you for the “Sisterhood of the world” bloggers award…
http://everydayasia.com/2015/07/02/sisterhood-of-the-world/
Aw, you are a sweetheart! I stopped participating in awards about a year ago, but I really appreciate the thought! xoxo
No worries! Just figured would regardless give you a ‘nod’ of appreciation!! 🙂
many thanks! xoxo
Oh my word. Just stumbled upon your blog. I’m in love.
And I am tickled pink!
Love the photo. Its my second favorite of you. 🙂
Oh – right – i posted that xray vision one of the Russian Princess and I and my see-through blouse. 🙂
How did you guess?
1. Because…boobs.
2. You have a penis.
Ahhh, can’t argue with that logic. Factor in involuntary reflex and a closing shirt and there it is – my favorite Nancy photo. 😀
Hi Nancy, I love your blog already. 2016 is the year of better health for me. Which is funny, because (I’m Christy from Running on Sober) I stopped drinking nearly 5 years ago and started running and working on all that self-help mumbo jumbo…
Yet, we forget it’s so easy to go overboard on getting healthy. Whereas I may be more physically fit that ever before, there’s still so many areas of my life I need to heal…to get healthy.
Nice to connect…I’ll be reading 🙂
Christy
